Viganj

Wind, waves and quiet elegance

About the village

Viganj is one of the best known sailing and windsurfing spots on the Adriatic. The channel between Pelješac and Korčula accelerates the maestral every afternoon, so from May to September the bay is full of sails. That brings an international crowd and a summer buzz that is part of the character here, not a nuisance.

In winter Viganj is almost empty and very quiet. It is worth knowing that before you buy: the bura blows harder here than in Orebić, and the shop and the konoba keep short hours out of season. Houses on the waterfront are rare and hold their value.

For daily life there is a shop, a few konobas and the campsites that open in summer. There is no school; Orebić is about ten minutes away and that is where the children go, and where the doctor and pharmacy are. Parking in the old part is a genuine problem in summer, so a plot with its own parking is worth noticeably more here than elsewhere.

Buyers are usually people who came to Viganj for the wind for years and then decided to stay. What is offered is mostly smaller stone construction in the old part and land above the road with a view across the channel. Before buying land, always check whether it sits inside the building zone, because that boundary is tight here and easy to get wrong.
